The New Grove Project, originated from the musical ideas of Ingemar Hjertqvist and Per Sundbom, a refined and energetic class of talented musicians on the Progressive Rock scene, from the past to the present day. All the musicians on this project, are experienced on a high number of different musical levels, where we can hear an emotional music, beautiful and refined, a fusion of a heavy and pompous Synphonic Progressive Rock, with Hard Rock elements, adding touchs of Classic Rock, sometimes deeply melodic, using a diverse instrumentation, distinct rhythms, extended instrumental explorations, adorned with rich emotional tones. New Grove Project´ arrangements denote instrumental masterhood and a magnificent individual talent where, all the instruments show us a amazing energy. Also excellent is the vocal interaction from "Ingemar Hjertqvist" and "John Bobo Bollenberg" which sound very clean as an ethereal atmosphere. New Grove Project sounds similar to "Focus", "Moody Blues", "The Bollenberg Experience" and "Pär Lindh Project". 8 years after "Fools Journey" the followup "Brill" is finally out. And this time NEW GROVE PROJECT hit the big drums. In best Scandinavian progressive manner we get 7 tracks of good music, ending with the 24 minute titletrack. My mind goes to FLOWER KINGS & IQ as well as hints of ÄNGLAGÅRD, to mention a few. But what could be expect from a band with the line up of Ingemar Hjertqvist: Vocals, John BoBo Bollenberg (BOLLENBERG EXPERIENCE): Vocals, Fredy Schnyder (Ex-THONK, NUCLEUS TOM) on guitars, mandolin, hammered dulcimer, keyboards, & grand piano, Andre Schornoz (SWISS GAMBLERS) on bass guitar, Hasse Bruniusson (Ex-SAMLA MAMMAS MANNA & FLYING FOOD CIRCUS) on drums and percussion, Jode Leigh (Ex-ENGLAND): Drums, piano and synthesizers and spoken words and finally Pär Lindh: on Hammond organ, grand piano and mellotron !!! Could be album of the year '05 ??
Detta projekt kommer nu ut med sitt tredje album. Åtta år har gått sedan förra släppet och snart finns nya ”Brill” att införskaffas hos bl.a Record Heaven. Musiken hamnar om man nu måste katalogisera den i de mer progressiva och symfoniska facket. Vi får här uppleva många olika inslag inom genren, The Flower Kings möter gamla Genesis som blandas med en hel del lekfullhet och experimentlusta.
The New Grove Project består av en åtta man stark uppställning, bland de mer välkända återfinns Pär Lindh och Hasse Bruniusson, de flesta av texterna är skrivna av Mikke Syväjärvi.
Ingemar Hjertqist och John BoBo Bollenberg står för det vokala som i den drygt tjugo minuters långa titelspåret ”Brill”. Ett spår som innehåller allt från vackra melodislingor till tunga symfoniska, många tempoväxlande stycken ibland akustiska blandas med mer lekfulla, får en del Yes vibbar här. Denna musikaliska orgie avslutas helt överraskande med ett stycke likt cirkus-musik, kan det möjligen vara hjärnan bakom ”Flying Food Circus” som är pappan till detta?
Fler exempel på god progressiv musik är ”Thoughts sui Generis”, ett spår med en del asiatiska influenser och en rejäl portion av det 70-tals symfoniska.
Ett spår ”Laughternoon Dream” går mer åt Beatles hållet, en liten pärla som kanske hamnar lite utanför de övriga musikaliskt.
Dessa skickliga musiker har gjort ett väl balanserat album med många njutbara musikstycken . Ett album som med all säkerhet kommer att tilltala de flesta som lyssnar på genren progressiv rock.
